Nigerian artist Oluwole Omofemi gains global praise for Prince William portrait
Nigerian visual artist Oluwole Omofemi has attracted international acclaim following the unveiling of his latest portrait of Prince William.
The artwork, commissioned by the British lifestyle magazine Tatler, will appear on the publication’s June 2026 cover and presents the Prince of Wales as a modern “king-in-waiting.”
Rendered in bold colours, the painting depicts Prince William in a navy suit against a striking yellow background, continuing Mr Omofemi’s signature visual style.
“I wanted to make a portrait that invites people to look again.”
Speaking to Tatler, Mr Omofemi explained that the portrait was designed to challenge conventional perceptions of public figures and encourage deeper reflection.

The artwork blends British royal symbolism with African artistic identity.
The portrait follows Mr Omofemi’s widely celebrated 2022 commissioned painting of Queen Elizabeth II created during the Platinum Jubilee marking her 70 years on the throne.
A subtle image of St Edward’s Crown appears within the composition, symbolising inheritance, continuity and the future of the British monarchy.
Executed in oil on canvas, the work combines textured brushstrokes with African-inspired textile patterns, reflecting the artist’s effort to merge royal imagery with African cultural identity.
“The dominant yellow tone reinforces continuity within transformation.”
Mr Omofemi revealed that the creative process involved studying multiple photographic references to capture both the physical likeness and psychological depth of Prince William.
