Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has endorsed Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the APC consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement strengthens a succession push already backed by President Bola Tinubu, signaling growing alignment among top party leaders in Lagos.

“I join my fellow members of the APC to congratulate my brother and friend, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, on his emergence as the consensus candidate,” Ambode stated.

He praised Hamzat’s “deliberate and purposeful consultations” within the party, describing him as a loyal figure committed to unity and progress.

“Your consultations have demonstrated that you are a true party man committed to unity and progress.”

Ambode further noted that Hamzat’s emergence reflects over two decades of loyalty, hard work, and dedication to the APC.

He also reaffirmed support for President Tinubu’s leadership, linking Lagos’ continued prosperity to the president’s governance.

“The prosperity of Lagos and Nigeria is firmly tied to the continued governance of Mr President.”

Despite the endorsements, political tension remains within the APC. Former PDP candidate Olajide Adediran has insisted on a competitive primary, warning against imposing a candidate.

Party insiders have also cautioned that endorsements do not represent a final decision, as the race remains open ahead of the primaries.

With alliances forming rapidly, Lagos politics is entering a decisive phase ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

🤔 Question Board

Do endorsements from party leaders decide elections in Lagos, or can grassroots voting still change the outcome?

💡 FixandFeed Insight:

In Lagos APC politics, endorsements often shape direction, but history shows that internal resistance and strategic alliances can still disrupt “consensus” outcomes.
